Former President Donald Trump said his unprecedented post-presidential legal troubles are just an effort to prevent him from seeking the White House again.
In an interview that aired Thursday night on Fox News Channel, Sean Hannity described all of the various criminal cases and lawsuits that have been filed against Trump and asked him if he thought it would end if “you announced right now that I’m not running in 2024.” . .”
“Yes,” Trump replied.
“They would have to make it look good, so it would take a little time. Yeah, I think it would work,” Trump said.
Mr. Hannity then said “but you’re not going to do that, are you?”
“Nah, I like this,” the former president replied. “I like it because we’ve done a good job.”
He later explained, when asked directly by Mr. Hannity, that “I’m not legally allowed” to advertise that he’s running.
President Biden gave a similar answer when asked earlier this week in a “60 Minutes” interview if he would run: that a formal candidacy announcement raises numerous legal information issues.
