Tim Ryan, call your office-Red State

Rep. Tim Ryan (D-Ohio), the Democratic Senate candidate, is almost becoming the king of very dumb attacks on his Republican opponent JD Vance.

We’ve already reported on two recent ones, including Ryan’s suggestion that Vance was out of touch with average Ohioans because he was transported to a campaign event in a $70,000 vehicle. Self-described “man of the people” Ryan himself was left out thrown out your campaign on a similarly priced vehicle, and the fact that those electric vehicles ryan promotes absolutely does not fit on the tight budgets of the middle-class people it claims to represent.

The other was a dunk attempt against Vance for holding a campaign rally last Saturday instead of attending an Ohio State football game, an attack that backfired when it was discovered that Ryan himself was also not at the game.

Here we are a week later and the third round of Ryan’s Very Online attacks on Vance continues, this time in response to a tweet from a USA Today reporter who noted that Vance “refused a pork sandwich” while at Farm Science Review on Wednesday because he was trying to stay fit”:

“Vance also offered to buy a smoothie for Dem’s tracker that follows him. For those who are curious, the tracker is lactose intolerant”, the same reporter also helpfully. indicatedbut i digress.

In response, Ryan, or most likely his handlers, delivered another annoying “not a real Ohioan” jab at Vance, declaring that “this guy just isn’t from Ohio” (presumably they meant “from” or “for” Ohio). :

So does this mean that Jews are not authentically Ohioans? Members of the Muslim community? And others who are allergic or just don’t like pork?

I mean, I’m from North Carolina. I understand the importance of barbecue in the political debate. If a candidate for higher office isn’t seen chewing on their share of ‘cue at some point during the campaign here, something is considered deeply wrong. And if they have the gall to actually dis’cuethere are hell to pay.

But for someone to refuse a food offering is not cause for alarm, nor does it indicate that the person is not one with the state or whatever.

Plus, if anyone should be embarrassed about anything barbecue-related here, it should be Tim Ryan. Flashback to this video clip disaster, about which Ryan was deservedly mocked even by other Democrats:

Tim Ryan might want to call your office. Your controllers are failing you. Like, big time.
